When creating this piece, I was capturing a fleeting moment in time, you know those moments, in the company of someone you love or admire, when adoration, contentment and pure presence fill your heart and soul – you want to clutch onto that moment, keep it in stasis, but the second you attain objective awareness of what you’re feeling, that sense of being completely present, at-one with that person, and with the universe, slips through your fingers. I can view this painting and be immersed, stepping into the shoes of the third person, the person we don’t see, upon whom she is casting her gaze. I feel the unadulterated love and adoration emanating from the imagined third party, onto our subject.
